Hip-hop star 21 Savage claimed his first chart-topping album with the new release "I Am > I Was." The new studio album will take the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200for the week of January 5, 2019.

According to AJC's report, the album had 131,000 equivalent album units for the week that ended Dec. 27, with 18,000 of those coming from traditional album sales. The majority of impressions for the overall "units" came from online streaming.

The album features 15 tracks and multiple guest stars throughout. Among the other artists appearing on the album are Cardi B, Travis Scott, Post Malone, Childish Gambino, and Offset from the group Migos. None of the artists are credited on the album's track listing, though.

The album comes with a bit of controversy as within the past several weeks the song "ASMR" received the spotlight. NBA star LeBron James posted a lyric from the song on his Instagram Story in which Savage raps "We been gettin’ that Jewish money, everything is kosher." It caused a backlash from many people over potential anti-Semitic reference. Both LeBron James and 21 Savage have since apologized for the lyrics.

21 Savage also recently gave back to the community. He hosted a "holiday giving event" for 21 kids in the area as part of his Leading By Example Foundation. The event was in conjunction with Juma and GetSchooled, two organizations focused on literacy. Each of the teens was given $1,000 gift cards from Amazon Music for being in Savage's "Bank Account" financial literacy program.
