Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane has released a new platter titled “Woptober II.” It follows the June release of his ‘Delusions of Grandeur’ disc. This 13-track CD includes appearances by Kevin Gates, Megan Thee Stallion, Quavo, Takeoff, and more.
His signature sound is a mashup of multiple music genres including rap, trap, hip-hop and southern hip-hop. He has displayed quality and consistency in his work since going toe to toe with his paranoia, court cases, and drug addiction. Here are but a few of the highlights of this new work.
The album opener is “Richer Than Everybody” featuring DaBaby and YoungBoy Never Broke Again. The Gucci influence is strong in YBNBA. It’s got a vintage vibe and a good combo of rappers.
The second serving is “Big Booty” which is highlighted by guest artist Megan Thee Stallion. Megan rips this as Mane floats over the loop of this strip club anthem. It also includes a noteworthy 2 Live Crew sample.
“Tootsies” includes Lil Baby and some enthralling production. With a wild bar and some mayhaps social-media inspired “opioid” references, the listener will return to this track . . . especially for Baby.
The closing cut is “Break Bread.” It’s got a higher vocal texture, a funny Fred Flinstone bar, and obvious energy. Mane is healthy, wealthy and happy here.
While some may be confused by the inclusion of material sounding like both classic Guwop and new Gucci Mane, the bottom line is this new audio offering is injected with infectious optimism from this modern-day trap rap troubadour.
