As many people know, Takeoff is one-third of the trap trio Migos and has just released his first solo album. The album, The Last Rocket, really shows off Takeoff’s rapping chops and what many people may not know, which is just how talented Takeoff truly is.
Upon first hearing of Migos, I was introduced to the song “Bad N Boujee”. The song features Quavo and Offset, but Takeoff is absent from the track. I immediately sought out the album, Culture, by Migos and was blown away at how good of a rapper Takeoff is. It was obvious to me that he could spit bars at a superior level to that of Quavo and Offset. Quavo is more of a trap artist singer, whereas Takeoff’s style is comparable to traditional rap.
Therefore it seemed inevitable that Takeoff would eventually break away from the group to release his own solo album. This is because his style is much different from that of Quavo and Offset, but as a trio, the group blends together brilliantly. Takeoff’s sultry voice and clever lyrics are something to be admired.
I give The Last Rocket an 8/10 and one of the best releases of 2018. This is up there with Travis Scott and 2 Chainz as innovative new music that is easily accessible for new listeners. I am excited to see Takeoff evolve as a solo artist and the future looks bright. The rapper has taken amazing strides in his career and can only go up from here!
